Keva Dean

Food as Medicine

Keva Dean is a Food Bank 2021 Speaker Series graduate and a CAP member who is actively advocating to end hunger in our community and beyond. While participating in the Speaker Series, she found her passion for food as medicine — the concept that food is a human right because it addresses our nutritional needs as well as feeds our bodies and brains. Food can address our emotional, mental and spiritual needs as well. Culturally appropriate meals are important holistically for our healing and health.

Keva currently serves on the Food Bank’s Board of Directors, the Contra Costa Council on Homelessness, and several other nonprofit organizations that address our county’s social and economic issues and equity. She has lived experience and a lot of passion to end hunger. She has used her voice at every level to do so, whether through advocacy or lobbying or in whatever forum she is given an opportunity.
