Meet your Food Bank Team: Jim Alvarado

A man poses with boxes of food in the Food Bank warehouse.

Ever wonder who helps pull all of those orders for the Food Bank’s agency partners at our warehouse? Meet Jim Alvarado, a warehouse associate at our Concord location.

How long have you worked for the food bank?
Nine years.

What made you want to work at the Food Bank?
I was on disability as an ironworker and I needed to do something to stay busy, so I volunteered twice a week for a year at the Food Bank and I liked it. When this job came up, I applied for it, got hired and retired from ironworking.

What is your favorite hunger fighting memory?
Getting hired! When I was volunteering with the Food Bank, I would go out with the drivers to deliver food to agencies.

What is your favorite fruit or vegetable?
Brussels sprouts! And any fruit, especially oranges

What’s your favorite home-cooked meal?
My wife makes the best spaghetti! She makes it with sausages and ground beef.

What is your favorite memory about food?
Hunting for food. Deer, pigs, etc.

What is a fun fact or a talent that people may not know about you?
I like to beat on the conga drums. I love all styles of music. I put on my favorite album or song and start jamming.

If you had a superpower, what would it be and how would you use it to feed people?
Eliminate food waste by getting it to the people who need it while the food is still fresh.
