Willie Mendoza

Single Parent Family Hunger

Willie has been a longtime Hunger Fighter and Food Bank employee. His journey started as a single parent of two looking to volunteer to meet his requirements to receive assistance for his family. His volunteer work soon turned into employment, and he has been able to grow, learn and contribute to the organization over the past 10 years.

After working at our Concord warehouse for almost a decade in the operations department with thousands of volunteer groups, Willie moved into the Remote Volunteer Engagement Specialist role. This position allows him to engage with volunteers even more through our many off-site activities and distributions. Willie is passionate about giving back and paying it forward, as he knows firsthand the true challenges of raising children in the Bay Area and what it takes to break through the barriers and cycles that so many families in our community experience daily.

Having completed the Food Bank’s Speaker Series in 2023, Willie has joined the CAP team to further his involvement with advocacy in an attempt to encourage and support legislation that will “level the playing field” for low-income families in Contra Costa and Solano counties as well as throughout the entire state.
