Our transportation team makes sure that food reaches every corner of Contra Costa and Solano Counties, and the neighbors who need it. We asked drivers Jason, Glen, James, Agustin and Transportation Supervisor Gee to share what keeps them trucking, including their road snacks of choice.
What’s your favorite part about being a driver for the Food Bank?
Jason Griego, Class C driver with the Food Bank for 16 years: Meeting new people.
Glen Cooper, Class B driver with the Food Bank for four years: Meeting people and seeing new places.
James Neil, Class B driver with the Food Bank for seven months: Being able to interact with the community and recover food from grocery stores.
Agustin Rodriguez, lead Class B driver: Getting to interact with people from all walks of life. It’s great to meet so many different people.
Gee, transportation supervisor with the Food Bank for four years: That we are the bridge that delivers the food to the community one stop at a time.
What would you want people to know about driving for the Food Bank?
Jason: The people we serve could be, and sometimes are, our neighbors.
James: The people we serve are very kind and everyday people like everyone else.
Gee: Regardless of how tired you might be, it’s worth it. Because you know at every stop or drop off, someone has something to eat
What’s your ideal snack for the road?
Jason: Protein drinks
James: GoMacro protein bars, specifically the berry flavor.
Agustin: Cold Pizza. Who needs a microwave?
Gee: Coffee and honey roasted peanuts.
What’s a moment that reminds you why your work matters?
James: When I get approached outside of work and people say “thank you” for my work.
