Food for Children

Free Food for Children in Contra Costa & Solano

Children, 4 and 5 years old, receive free food every month at one of nine sites throughout Contra Costa and Solano counties. Children, who are referred by WIC staff (Federal government: Women, Infants, and Children program), are provided with a large box of nutritious, high-protein food weighing 25 pounds.

BECOMING A PARTICIPANT

There are 3 ways to participate in the FFC program:

  1. WIC REFERRALS
    Children 4 and 5 years old can be referred by WIC.
  2. SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCY
    Referrals from Social service organizations serving low-income families.
  3. SELF-REFERRALS
    Referrals from a parent or legal guardian (at the distribution site).

Participant must provide the following:

  • Valid identification
  • Proof of child’s age*
  • Proof of low-income**
  • Proof of address

*The following may be used for proof of age:

  • Child birth certificate
  • Medical Shot record
  • MediCal card listing the child’s date of birth

**The following documents are accepted as income verification: MediCal or Food Stamp card, WIC or General Assistance papers, Paycheck Stub, Unemployment, TANF/AFDC or low-rent housing agreement.

For each additional person in the household, add: $525 monthly or $6,290 annually.

Once enrolled, recipients receive a FFC identification card. Children remain on the program through the month of their 6th birthday.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Recipients MUST bring their FFC identification card to the distribution. The identification card lists the distribution date, time and location where the boxes can be picked up.

  • If the card is lost, the recipient must bring identification and apply for a replacement card.
  • If the recipient is unable to come to the distribution site, someone may pick-up food for them. This person must bring a note from the recipient and the recipient’s FFC identification card, and their own personal identification.
