March 26, 2014 Art Contest! Get featured on a Food Bank Tote Bag – Now – May 15

The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano is looking for original artwork that will be used to create custom eco-friendly tote bags. The tote bags will be used to generate funds that support our services for people in need.

Anyone may submit artwork in the contest. Enter as often as you wish. The winning entries will be selected by a panel of Food Bank staff members and announced by June 1, 2014.

April 27, 2014 Concord Con Toy Show

Bring a can of food and save on your entrance to the annual Concord Con Toy Show on Sunday April 27th 9am to 3pm at Centre Concord, 5298 Clayton Road, Concord. Past show toy vendors showcased a wide variety of collectible toys from Transformers, Star Wars, DC and Marvel Comics, etc.  The first 200 children 12 years old and under receive a free hot wheels car. April 28, 2014 23rd Annual Food From the Bar Food/Fund Drive – April 28 to May 9

23rd Annual Food From the Bar Food/Fund Drive. Contra Costa County attorneys will once again hold their annual drive to benefit the Food Bank from April 28th through May 9th. This is a great way for law firms to have fun while collecting food and money. Some participants form teams to compete, and offices use creative fundraising ideas like Bake Sales, Carnival Day, and Survivor Day. Some people have even shaved their heads to collect donations! There will be a multi-firm Walk-A-Thon around downtown Walnut Creek. Even better – there’s a Cyber Competition! May 9, 2014 The Art of John Lennon – May 9 – 11

Continuing the Lennon legacy of peace and love, Yoko Ono, Legacy Productions & Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano are proud to bring The Art of John Lennon to downtown Walnut Creek for Mother’s Day weekend May 9th to 11th. Few people know that John did not pick up a guitar for 5 of the last 7 years. Few people know that John did not pick up a guitar for 5 of the last 7 years of his life. During those years he channeled his philosophy through his drawings. They, along with earlier sketches and song lyrics make up nearly the nearly 100 limited edition lithographs, serigraphs and copper etchings that will be on display. His artwork is both inspirational and generational. John leaves behind a potent message for future generations. These exhibits have not only been a forum to view John as an artist but also as a venue to raise funds and awareness for countless local charities. This exhibit will be benefitting Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. For the past 20+ years Yoko has brought this collection around the world as meeting place for Lennon, Beatles, peace, music, humanitarian, activist, lyricist, satirist and icon fans from all different walks of life.

Letter carriers will be collecting food for the Food Bank as they deliver the mail in this one-day national food drive. Mark your calendar to leave a bag of nonperishable food by your mailbox, prior to regular mail delivery on this day.  Your donations will help us fill many empty tummies during the summer months.

May 12, 2014 Drive Fore Break on Hunger Golf Classic

Register a golf foursome for a day of birdies, eagles and other ornithological golf moments, to be held on Monday May 12th at Oakhurst Country Club. A shotgun start will have all teams in play at 10:00am; a breakfast burrito will get you going beforehand with a BBQ after to announce the winners. Sponsorships are available! Cost is $125 per player, $450 per foursome for registrants prior to May 1st. After May 1st, cost is $150 per player and $500 per foursome.

May 24, 2014 KidFest, May 24-26

You can help feed children living with hunger in our community by bringing food to KidFest. Any sealed can, box, bag, or sealed non-perishable grocery item qualifies! The 25th annual KidFest will be in downtown Concord on Memorial Day Weekend: May 24 through May 26 from 10am to 6pm at Mt. Diablo High School (2450 Grant Street in Concord – near John Muir Hospital). Named a “2011 Best Place to take your Kids for Fun” by the annual Best of Claycord poll, KidFest is a fun and educational event for children and their families. Admission is $6 per person, but with a can of food to benefit the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, you will receive $1 off your admission price ($1 per person maximum). Be a kid again at the Contra Costa County Fair in Antioch! Charity Miles App for iPhone and Android

Turn your daily walk into meals for people we serve! Feeding America is one of the charities to walk for using Charity Miles, a free iPhone/Android app that empowers people to earn money for charity while walking, running or biking.  Participants choose one of the app’s featured charities and hit the streets.  The app will track the participant’s distance and they’ll earn money for their charity.  Bikers earn 10¢ per mile; walkers and runners earn 25¢ per mile—all up to an initial $1,000,000 sponsorship pool.

Feeding America food banks will receive a portion of revenue generated by the Charity Miles app in their service area.

If you are interested, download the Charity Miles app for iPhone or Android, select Feeding America and when you are walking, running or biking, a portion will be donated to our Food Bank.

Ready, Set, Bag! Supports Local Food Banks

If you are not already a fan of the original web series Ready, Set, Bag! On blip.tv, it’s time to become one!  From now until its official theatrical release in late summer, Ready, Set, Bag! is generously donating 100% of their advertising revenue to food banks around the country.  Even after the Ready, Set, Bag! Documentary hits the theaters, $1.00 of each ticket and DVD sale will benefit the Food Bank!

Ready, Set, Bag! has already donated enough funds for over 15,000 meals as of July 26, 2012 and arranged for other online artists including JibJab, AutoTuneTheNews, Sarah Austin and Mike Relm to help create content and contribute to this overall effort to help fight hunger.

Pampered Chef’s Round-Up from the Heart®

The Pampered Chef’s Round-Up from the Heart® program is a year-long campaign that benefits Feeding America and its member food banks. Since 1991 Pampered Chef has raised over $20 million by promoting the campaign at cooking shows, and at in-home cooking demonstrations, across the country. It is truly a national campaign with a local impact as we fight hunger together!

The campaign has three aspects: 1) Customers can round up cooking show purchase totals to the nearest dollar or more, with funds benefiting local food banks in the region where the donations originated. 2) Customers can purchase a limited edition Round-Up from the Heart cork trivet. For every trivet sold, The Pampered Chef will contribute $2 to Feeding America to support national programs. 3) Customers can purchase The Pampered Chef Cookbook for a Cause Volume 3 featuring recipes from stars of popular TLC shows including Cake Boss, DC Cupcakes, Say Yes to the Dress, Kate Plus Eight and more.  For each $3 cookbook sold, The Pampered Chef will donate $1 to Feeding America.

Doorstep Farmers

Doorstep Farmers is a new CSA (community supported agriculture) service located in Central Contra Costa County that delivers locally grown organic produce to your door weekly. As part of their commitment to help the local community, they developed the 2-1 Program, where the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano will receive one pound of locally grown produce for every two new supporters that subscribes to Doorstep Farmers. The Food Bank will distribute the donated produce to our local community in need.

Move to End Hunger

As you are aware, many people throw out a good deal of “stuff” when they move. Unfortunately a lot of this “stuff” is food that can be delivered to a family in need. That’s why Golden Gate Moving & Storage has teamed up with Move For Hunger to support the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

Please set aside any unwanted, non-perishable food items before your move and Golden Gate Moving & Storage will deliver the food to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.
