Edward D. Davis is a native of Richmond, California, where he has devoted more than 40 years to serving his community. He is happily married and has two daughters, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Edward and his wife ministered to inmates at the West Contra Costa County correctional facility for 36 years, and she served as Chaplain in Kaiser’s Spiritual Care program for six years. He is also a graduate of the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano’s 2025 Speaker Series.
As a child, Edward was often sick with eczema, missing school, and struggling to read. Teased by classmates, he cried out to God for strength. Those challenges instilled in him a deep compassion for people. In 11th grade, he left school determined to “be somebody,” later becoming a Journeyman Machinist by trade. Forty years ago, Edward surrendered his life to the Lord and began learning to read through Richmond’s LEAD program.
Today, Edward and his wife serve as police chaplains for the Richmond Police Department. His church, Ephesians of Richmond, partners with the Food Bank to distribute food to neighbors in need. Edward continues to volunteer because helping people brings him joy. He believes that love is action: one in three Californians faces hunger, and food banks are an essential part of the Emergency Food System.
