For 12 years, employees of Solano and Contra Costa counties have spent the month of December competing in the Counties Care Holiday Food Fight to raise funds for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, helping to ensure that the hungry of both counties will be able to eat fresh produce and nutritious food provided by the Food Bank.
Employees hold raffles, auctions, potato bake sales, and the like, all to embolden the workforce’s generosity to go beyond their daily service to the people and specifically help the hungry citizens the Food Bank serves. In whole, over the past 12 winter seasons, more than $1.3 million has been raised by this volunteer employee competition ($300,000+ of which was raised by Solano County employees).
While ultimately the winners of this drive are the residents of our counties who enjoy the Food Bank’s services, each year employees are ready for the victory dance with the Big Apple. It has traded hands many times, but Solano County employees are determined to have the tasty trophy returned to its rightful place… at the seat of Solano County!
In the end, the gift that keeps on giving to every participant in this diet duet is the knowledge that each of us has done something truly impactful.
Contra Costa – let’s work together to make all holiday platters full (with the Big Apple on the side!)
