Child hunger is a huge problem nationwide and here, in Contra Costa and Solano counties. More than 1 in 5 children in America are living in poverty. We have an opportunity to intervene and urge our members of Congress to pass a strong Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill (H.R. 5504) expanding access to critical federal nutrition programs for children, including: school meals, summer meals, and afterschool snacks. These programs are set to expire on September 30. Congress must fund and pass the bill immediately without cutting funding from any other anti-hunger programs.
Take action now! Call you member of congress and tell them to “fund and pass a strong federal nutrition bill immediately without cutting funding from any other anti-hunger programs”. You can contact your member by calling 866-548-0332 and press 2 to enter your zip code.
September 21, 2010 is National Call-In Day, an opportunity to strengthen federal child nutrition programs which should be a top priority. Let’s support children at risk of hunger now.
