What Is Food for Children?
Food for Children (FFC) is a program provided by the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano that furnishes a box of food once a month to 4 and 5 year old children from low income families.

BECOMING A PARTICIPANT
There are 3 ways to become a participant in the FFC program.

1. WIC REFERRALS
The Food Bank receives referrals from WIC on 5 year old children when they graduate from the WIC program and children 4 years old.

2. SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCY
Various social service organizations in Contra Costa and Solano counties serving low-income families may refer 4 and 5 year old children to the program.

3. SELF-REFERRALS
A parent or legal guardian of 4 or 5 year old children may sign up for the FFC program at the distribution site. Potential recipients must present the following:

• Valid identification
• Proof of child’s age*
• Proof of low-income**
• Proof of address

*The following may be used for proof of age:
Child’s birth certificate, Shot record or MediCal card that lists child’s date of birth.

**The following documents are accepted as income verification:
MediCal card, Food Stamp card, WIC papers, Paycheck Stub, General Assistance papers, Unemployment, TANF/AFDC or low-rent housing agreement.

Once enrolled, recipients receive a FFC identification card. Children remain on the program through the month of their 6th birthday.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Recipients MUST bring their FFC identification card to the distribution.
The identification card lists the distribution date, time and location where the boxes can be picked up.

• If the card is lost, the recipient must bring another form of identification and inform us a replacement card is needed. We will issue a new card.
• If the recipient is unable to come to the distribution, they may send someone to pick-up for them. This person will need to bring the recipient’s FFC identification card, some form of identification and a note from the recipient.
