| Sept 2 | DONATE YOUR FACEBOOK PICTUREChange your profile picture to the Hunger Action Month logo for the month of September to show your support and help spread the word. Download the photo here, on our Facebook Page or on our website logos page and encourage your friends to do the same. |
| Sept 3 | MAKE AN ORANGE MEALCook a meal using only orange ingredients like sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkins, cheddar cheese, bell peppers, oranges, or peaches. Orange is the color of Hunger Action Month to help raise awareness. Share photos and recipes of what you made on our Facebook Page and we'll pin it to Pinterest too! |

When people ask why you are all wearing orange, you can educate them about hunger. | Sept 7 | CHARITY MILES APPTurn you daily walk into meals for people we serve! Feeding America is one of 10 charities chosen to pilot Charity Miles, a free iPhone/Android app that empowers people to earn money for charity while walking, running or biking. If you are interested, download the Charity Miles app for iPhone or Android, select Feeding America and when you are walking, running or biking, a portion will be donated to our Food Bank. |
| Sept 8 | TWEET/BLOG/POSTOn social media sites about Hunger Action Month. “Like and share” Hunger Action Month status posts on the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/foodbankccs Twitter @foodbankccs and Pinterest www.pinterest.com/foodbankccs. | Sept 9 | SEND A PLATE TO ADVOCATESend a paper plate to the state capital and ask them to declare September Hunger Action Month. Decorate your plate to show how anti-hunger programs are needed in our community. The Food Bank will even mail them for you! For more information contact Lisa Sherrill at lsherrill@foodbankccs.org. |
| Sept 10 | SCHOOL FOOD DRIVEOrganize a food drive for the Food Bank at your school. By talking to the principal you can get barrels in your school. Then pass out flyers and ask other students to bring in food to feed the hungry. Email Joan Tomasini at jtomasini@foodbankccs.org to find out how. |
| Sept 11 | BE PREPAREDPut together a box of food and water for your family to use in the event of a disaster. What would you need? What would you want? Now make a similar box and donate it to the Food Bank for another family in need. |
| Sept 12 | HUNGRY KATE: THE GIRL WITH THE BELLY ACHEGo to www.foodbankccs.org/hungeractionmonth to watch the video about an ordinary girl who struggles with hunger. This powerful video created by the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank is entertaining for all ages. Share it with friends and coworkers to help spread the word. |

| Sept 14 | ASK YOUR NEIGHBORS TO HELPBecome a part of a new movement and become and Food Project Coordinator. Pass out bags twice a month in your community and collect them when they are full. Bring the food to the Food Bank to supply the families we serve with nutritious food all year long. | Sept 15 | FOOD BANK BAKE SALEAsk your friends to come over and see how you all can make a difference. Collect donations, have a bake sale, lemonade stand, or sell crafts to benefit the Food Bank. | Sept 16 | SERVE A MEALFind out how you and your parents can help serve a meal at a local shelter or community kitchen. Ask them to call 2-1-1 to find a local shelter or community kitchen near you. |
| Sept 17 | DONATE YOUR ALLOWANCEFor every $1 donated, the Food Bank is able to provide two meals to people in need in our community. Donate online at www.foodbankccs.org or mail donation to Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, P.O. Box 6324 Concord, CA 94524. |
| Sept 18 | HELP HARVESTPick backyard produce at you or a neighbor’s house and donate it to the Food Bank. Fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables are always a bonus for our clients. |
| Sept 19 | BIKE AGAINST HUNGERGo on a bike ride or hike and collect $1 for each mile you travel. Ask adults to pledge and donate the money to the Food Bank. |
| Sept 20 | WEAR ORANGERaise awareness for hunger issues by wearing orange every Thursday this month. See if you can get others to join you or make it a larger challenge by including your friends, classmates and family. When others ask, you can educate them about the Food Bank and hunger in our community. WALNUT FESTIVALSeptember 20-23: Bring some canned food Thursday-Sunday to Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek (301 N. San Carlos Drive) for the annual Walnut Festival and receive $1 per day off admission. Carnival hours are Thursday 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Friday 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Saturday 11:00 am to 11:00 pm and Sunday 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. The Lakeside craft show/bands is Saturday 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. | Sept 22 | PLEASANT HILL COMMUNITY SERVICE DAYPleasant Hill Community Service DayVolunteers can help at a variety of projects including a neighborhood food drive. Gather at Pleasant Hill Park at 7:30 am to receive a pancake breakfast and your free t-shirt. Volunteers will go door to door in their neighborhood to collect food for the Food Bank. You will then bring the collected food back to the park where we can showcase the collection and load it into the truck at the end of the project. We will provide new paper bags for you and samples of flyers. This is a great project for scouts, church groups, school children, neighborhood groups and anyone else that would like to help collect food for our neighbors in need.
